THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO
February 9, 2005 - Vol 8, No 6
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

We don't have a confirmed* date for the UK premiere of Doctor Who
yet, but we do have confirmation on a radio behind the scenes
documentary. "Project: Who" will air in 2 hourlong parts on Tuesdays
22 and 29 March at 8:30PM GMT on BBC Radio 2
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/ . Hosted by veteran actor Patrick
Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dune, X-Men), the
documentary will go behind the scenes of the new series and explore
why Doctor Who is returning now. How will the show be launched and
marketed around the world. A "dramatic" mix of clips, interviews,
archive material, and music. Radio 2 is also promising to have a
countdown to the new TV series, a mini-site devoted to the new show,
and expect Doctor Who material on the Steve Wright afternoon show (2
to 5PM GMT weekdays). Radio 2 can be heard over the airwaves in the
UK, on UK digital TV, online with a live RealPlayer feed, and shows
are available for a week via Listen Again (also RealPlayer).
*Many people - myself included - believe the series will premiere on
BBC One on 26 March. The speculation is that this documentary is
being sandwiched for the Tuesday before and after the premiere. But
until the BBC actually gives a date for the premiere, either in
published TV listings or an announcement, I can't count it as
confirmed.
It has come out that Doctor Who Confidential (BBC3's companion show)
will have individual episode titles. The theme of each episode will
tie into a theme in the Doctor Who episode that just aired and show
how that theme has been explored in the original series. The first
few episode titles for Confidential are now out - "Back From The
Future", "Aliens - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "TARDIS tales".
Since most of the Doctor Who episode titles seem confirmed at this
point, we will add them to the column now. TBA = to be announced /
unclear. Titles can always change before broadcast. This Week In
Doctor Who does not consider episode titles to be spoilers - if a
title spoils information, that is the fault of the person on the
production team who decided on the title.
WYBE 35 Philadelphia, PA http://www.wybe.org is the latest US station to announce that they have lost the rights to the original series. It is gone effective March. WYBE's full statement is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/messages/277 . WYBE has aired Doctor Who since March 1999, running the series from Tom Baker through Sylvester McCoy twice, and now airing several early William Hartnell stories. Suspicion is that the last date will be February 26, though that cannot be confirmed unless WYBE does so or March listings appear with something else in the time slot.
Corrections and updates are welcome at thisweekindoctorwho-
